ONfungi looks at how we might rebuild carbon and improve fertility in soils

In 2019 Kelvin Hodges and Scott Hortop met and decided to try a communications experiment where we explore a new method of using leaf compost to enhance the fungal wealth of soils.

For Kelvin the project is about reaching out to a wider community to create a message of hope. He uses science to tell the story.

For Scott the project helps spread the word about fungal dominant compost (FDC). The science strengthens participation in the composting regime and attracts more adherents.
The project has been very successful with many wonderful moments of science, gardening, farming and general congenial joy.

The ONfungi project continues to grow and develop. In 2023 over 32 bioreactors are filled and in use.
